Università degli Studi di Torino

Established in 1404, the Università degli Studi di Torino (UNITO) is one of Italy’s oldest and most prestigious academic institutions. With a diverse academic portfolio, UNITO offers a wide range of programs across various disciplines, fostering a strong commitment to research, innovation, and sustainability. The university actively promotes environmental initiatives through its Green Office (UniToGO), which coordinates sustainability efforts and engages both students and staff in environmental projects. UNITO’s dedication to sustainable development is evident in its interdisciplinary approach and collaboration with local and international partners to address global challenges.

Role in the project

In the Green SWaP project, UNITO contributes significantly across multiple work packages:

WP2 – Green SWaP System Engineering

UNITO collaborates in defining system and subsystem requirements, developing comprehensive test plans, conducting intermediate Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessments, and formulating a qualification roadmap. Their expertise ensures that the project’s technological developments are systematically evaluated and meet the desired performance standards.

WP3 – Solar-to-Fuel Conversion

UNITO supports efforts in exploring innovative methods for converting solar energy into fuel. This includes research on photo/electrochemical synthesis and plasma-based synthesis to produce sustainable propellants. Additionally, UNITO is involved in tasks related to High-Test Peroxide (HTP) concentration, contributing to the development of efficient and green propulsion technologies.

In addition, UNITO actively participates in disseminating project outcomes and engaging with stakeholders. Through its Green Office and various sustainability initiatives, the university promotes the project’s findings, fosters collaboration, and integrates Green SWaP technologies into broader environmental and educational programs.
